Suzanne Romain
Counsellor and Clinical Supervisor

About me

I’m Suzanne, a counsellor and clinical supervisor. My route into counselling has been shaped by a longstanding interest in people, relationships and the experiences that influence who we become.

I originally trained in law before moving into education, where I worked for many years as a teacher, SENCo and senior leader. I also have a degree in Theology. These different experiences have contributed to my understanding of people, identity and the many ways our lives and experiences shape how we see ourselves and the world around us.

I later trained as a counsellor at Metanoia Institute, bringing together my professional and life experience with a belief that meaningful change can happen when we have the space to explore ourselves honestly and without judgment.

I am currently completing the Level 6 Certificate in Therapeutic Counselling Supervision (TCSU-L6) with Headstrong Academy, further developing my practice as a clinical supervisor.

How I work

My approach is humanistic and relational, which means that the relationship we build together is an important part of the work. I aim to offer a space where you can feel genuinely heard, accepted and able to explore what matters to you at your own pace.

I work with an awareness that none of us exists outside the wider world. Our identities, relationships, culture, communities and life experiences can all shape how we understand ourselves and how we are understood by others.

My practice is therefore informed by an anti-oppressive perspective. I aim not to make assumptions about your experience, but to remain curious about what your world means to you and to make room for conversations about identity, difference and power when they are relevant to our work.

I see therapy as something we do together.

I won't tell you how you should live your life, but I will listen, reflect, sometimes gently challenge, and support you in developing your own understanding and finding a way forward that feels meaningful to you.
